Holiday Eating Worries

THANKSGIVING EATING

STOP THE DRAMA ABOUT HOLIDAY EATING
AND EAT ‘TIL YOU PASS OUT IF YOU WANT!

If you are actively pursuing a restricted calorie diet (“dieting”) overeating one day, at best will only alter your goal for a short time.

If you adjust you’re eating & activity for a short period after Thanksgiving……other than the short term bloating/water retention….you most likely won’t even notice a change.

If you are not pursuing a restricted eating plan and you normally don’t eat more that you burn, whatever you eat in excess of the amount you burn “could” eventually be stored as fat. In order for that to happen you would have to eat at least as much as you burn in the days immediately following Thanksgiving long enough to cause enough of the excess calories to remain “excess” long enough to be converted into stored fat.

How much could you possibly eat on any given day?

The rate is usually measured in lb increments: for example, 3500 calories = 1 lb. Therefore every 3500 calories you eat that are over your daily burn “could” be converted into 1lb of stored fat. This is only possible if the excess remains excess long enough to be converted. It’s important to note: mathematically 1750 excess calories could be converted to 1/2 lb of stored fat; 875 excess calories could be converted into ¼ lb of stored fat, and so on.

Understanding the simple math of calories in vs. calories out, how much fat weight do you think you could possibly gain? If you over eat 7,000 calories (which would be a minimum of 9,000 calories total because the average person burns at least 2,000 calories per day) the worst consequence is only 2 lbs!

Most people will only over eat amounts that are easily used as energy in the day, or the few days following Thanksgiving simply by adjusting intake and activity to allow your body to use the excess calories for energy!

BOTTOMLINE:

A few days a year of eating many more calories that you will burn in a single day won’t make or break your weight management!!!

HELPFUL HINT:

Minimize the use of unnecessary fats because all fats contain a little more than twice the calories of all protein and all carbohydrates. Therefore, if volume is what you’re after, twice as much protein and carbohydrates, than fat can be eaten for the same amount of calories.

SO ENJOY A DAY OF EATING AND RELAXING, EVEN IF YOU EAT TILL YOU PASS OUT! :>)
